Brown University Recreation

General Info
The Brown University Ice Hockey Club competes across the northeast and New England region. The club is student-run organization that is funded partially by Brown University and partially through self-generated revenue and donations. Under the supervision of the Club Sports Administration, student leaders of the club handle all aspects of the program including coaching, practices, game scheduling, and travel arrangements.
Practices and home games are played in Meehan Auditorium, the same facilities used by the Brown University Men's and Women's Varsity Hockey teams. Travel distances range from a couple miles to overnight trips. Team transportation and hotel accommodations are provided to club members by the club.

Frequently Asked Questions
    Q: What is club hockey?
A: Club hockey is full contact ice hockey played under NCAA rules. It is similar to varsity hockey in that we travel to play teams from other schools, though not at the same skill level and with a lesser time commitment.

Q: What is the skill level of the players?
A: Most of the players on the team have played hockey for many years at the high school varsity level or higher. However, players of any and all ability levels are encouraged to come to tryouts in September.

Q: When are the practices and games?
A: We typically practice 2-3 nights a week and aim to play 12-18 games per year, with playoffs occurring at the end of each season. Practices are midweek and games are played on the weekends, half at home and half away.

Q: How much of a time commitment is the team?
A: If you are a game-rostered player we will expect a commitment to the schedule and the team. However, we are all students and understand that academics come first.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Dues vary from year to year, but thanks to our fundraising efforts and self-generated revenue, they are significantly less than a typical travel hockey team.
