The Toronto Jr. Canadiens were originally known as the North York Civics. The North York Civics carried the name until 1987 – 1988 season. The organization then changed their name to the North York Canadiens where they adopted the logo of the Montreal Canadiens. When the municipality of North York was dissolved into the Greater Toronto Area, the Canadiens soon changed to their current name, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens and with the permission of the Montreal Canadiens and the National Hockey League the organization adjusted the logo to the familiar:

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens hosted the newly renamed Canadiens Cup – Tyler Cragg Memorial Tournament at the end of September and our teams had a very successful showing. The Tournament which continues to grow year after year runs divisions for Minor Atom, Atom, Minor Peewee, and Peewee teams across Canada and the USA. When the trophies were handed out, the Jr. Canadiens teams won the Minor Atom, Minor Peewee, and Peewee divisions while the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs won the Atom division. Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to next year!

Jr. Canadiens Early Bird Success

The Jr. Canadiens started off the 2016-2017 season with a bang! The Minor Atom, Atom, Minor Peewee, and Peewee teams, all made it on to the Championship game of their respective Early Bird Tournaments. The Minor Atom (2007) and Peewee (2004) teams took home the Championship trophies winning the Toronto Marlboros Friendship Tournament and Toronto Red Wings Early Bird. Keep up the great work!

Peewee’s Win North American Cup

The Peewee Toronto Jr. Canadiens travelled to Buffalo, New York for the 2^nd Annual North American Cup over the January 15-18 weekend. The tournament features top teams from all over Ontario, the United States, and even a Russian entry, Moscow Dynamo. The tournament was played all over the Buffalo area and included an outdoor game that had a Winter Classic like environment. The boys went 7-0 and defeated the top ranked Detroit Little Caesars in the Championship game by a score of 4-3. Congratulations to the Peewee Jr. Canadiens! Results are as follows:

Peewee’s Win Florida Cup

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Peewee team travelled down to Florida over the Holidays to participate in the Inaugural Florida Cup. While it was nice to get away from the cold winter weather in Ontario, they went down there with a goal of bringing home their second tournament championship of the season. The team did not disappoint, with a record of 6-0 in the tournament they were crowned Champions! Congratulations to our Peewee team. Results are as follows:

Midget’s Win Waterloo Gold Puck   

The Midget Toronto Jr. Canadiens travelled to Waterloo, Ontario for the Waterloo Gold Puck Tournament over the December 12-14/2014 weekend and returned as Champions! After going 3-0-1 in round robin play, the faced off against the hometown Waterloo Wolves in the Semi-Finals and defeated them by a score of 4-0. After a quick team lunch, the team was back at against the Halton Hurricanes, defeating them by the same 4-0 score and crowned the Waterloo Gold Puck Champions! Congrats to the Midget team! Jr. Canadiens Appoint John Winstanley as Assistant General Manager

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens are proud to announce the appointment of John Winstanley today as the Assistant General Manager.

Winstanley joins the organizations executive staff after serving as the Head Coach of the 1998 born Jr. Canadiens for 6 seasons and is currently a member of the 2002 born Jr. Canadiens Coaching Staff. John’s 1998 team won the Kraft Cup and GTHL Championship in their Minor Midget year (2013-2014 season). His team featured 3 OHL 1^st Round Draft Picks in Jakob Chychrun (1^st Overall), Travis Barron (3^rd Overall), and Victor Mete (8^th Overall) and had a total of 12 players selected in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. He was also named Coach for the GTHL Annual Top Prospects Game featuring the top 40 players in the Minor Midget loop. John is currently the Assistant General Manager and Athletic Director at Everest Academy.

John has been coaching and working with hockey players for over 13 years and has vast knowledge and experience in hockey and sports development coaching. John has worked with many elite players in all age categories. Known in hockey circles for his high performance puck handling and offensive skills training, John has a passion for helping hockey players develop into better athletes and people.

Bantam’s Win Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Reebok Classic

The Bantam Toronto Jr. Canadiens travelled to Hamilton, Ontario over the December 5 – 7/2014 weekend to participate in the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Reebok Classic. The tournament gave the team a chance to play some teams they are not used to seeing from the USA and Ontario as their were only a few GTHL entries. The team went 6-0 on the weekend capped off with a 4-2 win over the highly ranked Southern Tier Admirals. Congratulations to the Bantam team! Results are as follows:

Minor Midget’s Win Wendy Dufton Memorial in London

The Minor Midget Toronto Jr. Canadiens were down in London, Ontario for the Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament hosted by the London Jr. Knights over Thanksgiving weekend. After going undefeated in round robin play, the team knocked off the Toronto Red Wings in the Quarter Finals and the hometown London Jr. Knights in the Semi Finals, setting up an all GTHL Final against the Don Mills Flyers. A goal with 34 seconds left in the 3rd period gave the Jr. Canadiens the lead for good and the Tournament Championship. Congratulations Minor Midget’s!

Jr. Canadiens named to Team Canada Under-17 Team

Three Toronto Jr. Canadiens were named to Team Canada’s Under-17 team for November’s U-17 World Championships. Travis Barron, Jakob Chychrun, and Victor Mete were all members of our 1998 born Minor Midget GTHL Champions. Two other long time Jr. Canadiens, Adam Mascherin and Jordan Kyrou were also named to the team. Congratulations to all players named to the teams!

Peewee’s Win Detroit Little Caesars Hockeytown Challenge

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Peewee team captured it’s 4th Preseason title in as many years. This year the Peewee team coached by Daniel Sisca, John Winstanley and Dave Camerlengo traveled to Port Huron Michigan to play in the Little Caesars Hockeytown Challenge. The 16 team tournament featured the top 5 teams from the USA. The Toronto Jr. Canadiens defeated the Buffalo Jr Sabres in the championship game 6-2.

Minor Midget’s Win GTHL Championship

The 1998 born Toronto Jr. Canadiens have pulled off the double Championship in their Minor Midget season. After being crowned the Kraft Cup Champions at the end of the regular season, the Jr. Canadiens knew that every team would be gunning for them.

Their first round match up pitted them against a Mississauga Rebels team that works hard and does not quit until that final buzzer. The Jr. Canadiens were all business in the series and it led them to a 4 game sweep of the feisty Rebels.

The second round would put them against a high octane offensive Vaughan Kings team. There was no loved lost between these two teams over the season as they faced off numerous times throughout the year. The Jr. Canadiens were clearly not messing around from the first faceoff and it led them to their second consecutive 4 game sweep.

The Championship series would see the Jr. Canadiens faceoff against the Toronto Marlboros for the 4^th consecutive season. The Marlboros were the 3 time defending Champions of the 1998 born age group so it was going to be a battle from the get go. After 7 games, the teams were tied in points which led to a decisive Game 8. The stands were full to the rafters and the camera crews were out for the end of this lengthy rivalry. The Jr. Canadiens were able to pull it off with a 3-0 victory and thus, being crowned the GTHL Champions.

Congratulations to all of the players as well as to the Coaching Staff of John Winstanley, Aaron Sellon, Dave McKenna, and Scott Hancock!

Minor Midget’s Win Kraft Cup

The 1998 born Toronto Jr. Canadiens were crowned the Kraft Cup Champions after a year in which they went 31-1-1. The 98 team have been knocking on the door of the defending champions, the Toronto Marlboros for the past few seasons but with all the bragging rights on the line in the Minor Midget year, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens pulled it out! The team now begins its road to the OHL Cup with its first round match up against the Mississauga Rebels. Congratulations and Good Luck to the 98 team!

Minor Atom’s and Minor Peewee’s Win Canadiens Cup

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens hosted their annual Christmas tournament named the Canadiens Cup over the holidays at Buckingham Arena. The tournament features some of the top teams in the 2004 and 2002 age groups every year. This years edition saw teams travel from Detroit, Syracuse, London, and Chicago with a healthy amount of local teams.

The 2004 Jr. Canadiens walked through their three round robin games scoring a total of 15 goals for and 0 goals against. This set them up with a Semi-Final match up against their arch rivals the Toronto Red Wings. The Red Wings had defeated the Jr. Canadiens in their last tournament encounter which meant this game had a little extra meaning to it. A high intensity game ended in the Jr. Canadiens favour as they walked away with a 3 – 1 victory. This set up a rematch with the Detroit Little Caesars in the Championship game. The Jr. Canadiens has their way with the Little Caesars in the round robin but this game proved to be a different story. The game was tied at 2 after 2 periods and was back and forth throughout the 3^rd period but, a goal midway through the frame would prove to be the difference as the Jr. Canadiens came away with a 3 -2 win!

The 2002 Jr. Canadiens were aiming for their third tournament championship of the season after a successful Early Bird and our of town trip to Boston at the EHF Showcase. Although this tournament was smaller then what the are used to, the competition was high end as 5 of the teams were ranked in the top 10 of their respected divisions. After going 4 – 0 in the round robin, the Jr. Canadiens finished 2^nd as their goal differential was not as strong as the Syrcause Nationals. Their Semi-Final game matched them up against the very strong Chicago Mission. The Jr. Canadiens came out on top with a 4 -1 victory which set up a Championship game against the Syrcause Nationals. A very talented team in their on right the Nationals came out strong but the mixture of their short bench and third game of the day proved to be costly as they could not keep up with the Jr. Canadiens. Bantam’s Win Waterloo Gold Puck

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Bantam team travelled to Western Ontario this past weekend to play in the 43^rd Annual Waterloo Gold Puck, hosted by the Waterloo Wolves. The 1999 born Jr. Canadiens team has had quite a bit of success in their previous two tournaments, finishing in 2^nd place at both the Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament and the Peterborough Bantam Ice Fest.

The 99s entered their third tournament of the year with a Championship in mind and they delivered! Going 4 – 0 in the Round Robin, the Jr. Canadiens set themselves up with the #1 seed heading into the playoff rounds. After defeating the Grey Bruce Highlanders in the semi-finals the Jr. Canadiens had a date with the hometown Waterloo Wolves in the Championship Game. The team was down 1 – 0 with just over 7 minutes left in the 3^rd period until Kirill Maksimov jumped on a loose puck in the high slot to tie the game at 1 – 1. The score stayed the same until about 40 seconds left in the 3^rd when Simon Boyko scored to break the dead lock off a set play with assists going to Nicholas Campoli and Kirill Maksimov.

Minor Peewee’s make a Toddlers Christmas

The Minor Peewee AAA Toronto Jr. Canadiens shared in the spirit of the season by foregoing their own gift exchange to brighten one little boy’s holiday. The team decided to help Ashley Williams and her one-year-old son, Dominic, after his stroller and winter clothes were stolen from a daycare earlier this month.
“All the players were on board, they wanted to help a family out or help somebody out this Christmas and make it more meaningful,” parent Eddie O’Toole said.
The team donated a total of $600 worth of gifts including new clothes, toys and a new stroller. “He’s so little and his stroller got stolen so I just wanted to make him feel good for Christmas,” player Shawn Spearing said.
Although her son may not remember the Canadiens’ gesture, Williams will make sure he hears about the team’s goodwill in the future. “I’m going to save all the videos and pictures and I’m going to show him that there are kind people in the world that are willing to help when people are in need.”

Minor Midget Mentorship Night

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Minor Midget and Minor Peewee coaching staffs came together a few weeks ago with the idea of setting up an evening where the Minor Midget coaching staff and players would give the Minor Peewee players a run through of a day in the life of a Minor Midget hockey player.

The evening began with both teams taking part in a video session and a lesson on the “do’s and don’t’s” of social media. Next both teams ventured upstairs for a dryland session on core strength and plyometrics, which was followed by a quick one hour practice with the Minor Midget Coaching Staff and players.

This was a great opportunity for the Minor Midgets to mentor the Minor Peewee team on what it takes to be a successful team not only in game situations but at the practice facilities as well.

Thank you to Coaches John Winstanley, Aaron Sellon, Vince Tarantino, Daniel Sisca, and Fonz Carogioiello for making the evening a memorable one for everyone involved.

Peewee’s Win Tim Hortons AAA International Tournament

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Peewee team have finally broken through the door with their first Tournament Championship! After years of knocking on the door, the team travelled to Hamilton to participate in the Tim Hortons “AAA” International Tournament hosted by the Hamilton Huskies and were victorious. The team played four round robin games with the following results:

TampaBay Lightning: 3-2 W
Ottawa Senators: 6-2 W
Syracuse Nationals: 5-1 W
Rochester Monarchs: 4-1 W

The Semi-Final game led them into battle with the Eastern Ontario Wild of the OEMHL. The Jr. Canadiens came up with a hard fought 4-2 victory which would then pit them against their OMHA rivals the Barrie Jr. Colts. The 2001 Barrie Jr. Colts and the Toronto Jr. Canadiens paths have crossed numerous times over the years most recently at an Early Bird Tournament in September. The Jr. Canadiens had revenge on their minds and were able to pull out a 3-0 victory to be crowned the Champions!

Minor Peewee’s Win EHF Columbus Day Tournament

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens 2002 team added to their extensive trophy case this past weekend at the EHF Columbus Day Tournament. The tournament featured some of the top teams from all over the USA as well as a few Ontario based entries. The Jr. Canadiens round robin and first two play-off rounds went as follows:

Long Island Royals: 5-1 W
Middlesex Islanders: 5-1 W
Westchester Express: 5-0 W
QF – Boston Jr. Eagles: 8-1 W
SF – Middlesex Islanders: 4-1 W

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens faced off against their Ontario rival, the Oakville Rangers in the finals. The Jr. Canadiens opened the scoring in the second period with a goal by Ryan Tverberg. They then made it 2-0 early in the third period with a goal by Cameron Peters. The Oakville Rangers scored with 1:40 remaining to make it 2-1 and after a penalty on Jr. Canadiens and pulling the goalie to give them a 2 man advantage the Rangers tied the game with 33 seconds remaining in the game to send it to overtime. There was no scoring in the first 5 minute OT which was 5 on 5. The second OT which featured 4 on 4 play finished with no scoring however, late in the second OT Oakville was awarded a penalty shot. Marco Costantini made an incredible save to send the game into triple OT where during 3 on 3 play, Ryan Tverberg scored his second of the game on an assist from Marco’s twin brother Anthony Costantini. Final Score 3-2 in triple overtime.

Jr. Canadiens make their home debut at Buckingham Arena

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens made our much anticipated debut at the new Buckingham Arena on Sunday September 29^th 2013. After years of hosting our teams at Chesswood Arena on Rinks 1 and 2, the organization made the move to the new Buckingham rink with our teams playing all day on Rink 1. The Minor Atom team begins the day at 9:30AM and finishes up with our Minor Midget team at 5:00PM. The day is then closed out with the Toronto Jr. A Canadiens playing their home games at 7:30PM on Sunday nights.

The day began with our 2004 team pulling off a big 5-2 win over their rivals, the Mississauga Rebels. It started a very successful day that saw our teams go 5-0-2 on the day. The Jr. Canadiens have a very unique set up at Buckingham, “its a special feeling being the only organization that runs its teams in a row like this…followed by our Junior team. It sure makes life easier for call ups, as well as Scouts that want to catch minor midget and Junior A. We are very grateful to John Cook of Buckingham Sports to give us this opportunity” -Tyler Cragg, President of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.

The first weekend after Labour Day always marks the start of the “AAA” hockey season in the GTHL. With Early Bird tournaments hosted by local organizations the Toronto Marlboros, the Mississauga Senators, the Toronto Red Wings, and the Toronto Titans it gave our teams their first opportunity to play some meaningful games.

The Minor Atom, Minor Peewee, Bantam, and Minor Midget teams all qualified for Championship games in their respected tournaments. The Minor Peewee team came away with the Toronto Marlboros Friendship Tournament Championship after recording the following victories:

Atom’s Win OHF Championships

Congratulations to the Atom Jr. Canadiens on winning the Ontario Hockey Federation Championships! The Jr. Canadiens were the #1 ranked team in Ontario all season long. After winning the Shanahan Warrior International, the Sarnia Silverstick, the GTHL Kraft Cup (Regular Season Champions) and, the GTHL Playoffs, the team set their sights on the OHF Championships to end their great season. After going 3 – 1 in the round robin, the Jr. Canadiens eliminated the Oakville Rangers in the semi-finals which set up a rematch against the Niagara North Stars in the finals. The Jr. Canadiens came out strong and were too much to handle coming away with a 7-0 victory! Game results are listed below:

OHL Priority Selection

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens would like to congratulate the 8 players that were drafted in this years OHL Priority Selection. Nikita Korostelev went 9^th Overall to the Sarnia Sting and was followed by Zach Wilkie at 29^th Overall selection by the Niagara Ice Dogs. A full list of players drafted is listed below:

Atom’s Win GTHL Championship

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Atom team have won the GTHL Championship! After running the table during the season by going an impressive 31-0-2 on their way to a Kraft Cup Championship, the Atom team can now add a Playoff Championship to their trophy case. The Atom team defeated the Mississauga Senators and the Mississauga Reps in the first two rounds of the playoffs, which set up a Jr. Canadiens and Toronto Marlboro championship series for the second straight season. The Jr. Canadiens could not be stopped this year and were crowned the GTHL Champions winning the series 9 points to 5 points. Congratulations to the Atom Jr. Canadiens and good luck at the OHF Championships next weekend!

Atom’s Win Sarnia Silverstick

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens Atom team have won their second consecutive Silverstick Championship. After winning the Whitby Silverstick in the 2011-2012 season the Atom team traveled to Sarnia this year to defend their title. The team did not allow a single goal in the entire tournament on the way to a Championship game versus their rivals the Toronto Marlboros. The boys came away with a 3 – 0 Win to claim the championship. Congrats to the Atom Toronto Jr. Canadiens on their second tournament championship this season! Game results are listed below:

Preston International Tournament All-Stars

Ryan Paikin and Quinn Tavares were named to the Preston International Tournament All-Star team! Congrats to the Minor Atoms on a successful tournament in Cambridge!

Atom’s Win Shanahan Warrior International

(Youth1 Hockey) – The No. 1 Toronto Jr. Canadians ran the table going 7-0 to take home the Shanahan Warrior championship this past weekend. They capped off the weekend beating the No. 11 Mid Fairfield Yankees in the championship.

The Canadians cruised past the No. 9 Barrie Jr. Colts 9-1 in their first game. Isaac MacLeod led the way with a hat trick, and Cole O’Hara scored two goals of his own. Their second game was not as easy, but they prevailed 4-2 against the No. 21 Waterloo Wolves. Macleod and O’Hara led way once again, combining to score three of the team’s four goals.

The Canadians completely dominated their next two games, outscoring the opposition 18-2 in 9-1 wins over both the Pittsburgh Aviators and Gloucester Jr. Rangers. MacLeod combined to score eight goals within the two games. Shawn Spearing, Max Bronstine, and Ryan Tverberg also also played well during this stretch scoring seven goals among the three of them.

The quarterfinals and semifinals were the closest games for the Jr. Canadians. In the quarters, they faced the No. 2 ranked US team, the South Shore Kings, and then took on the No. 2 Ontario team, in the Toronto Marlboros.

The Canadians got off to a flying start against the Kings, scoring four times in the first period on goals by Ellis Rickwood, Matthew Perciballi and O’Hara. The score was 4-1 going into the third period, but the Kings came roaring back with three goals in the period. Thomas Tasker and Collin Graf (two goals) both scored for the Kings, but Perciballi connected for the second time to help lead the Canadians to a 5-4 victory.

Going into the semi’s, the Canadians had gone 1-2 against the Marlboros. The Marlies struck first on a goal by Drysdale to take a 1-0 lead. Perciballi found the back of the net in the second to even the game up before scoring the game-winner in the third, propelling the Canadians into the championship game.

The Canadians faced the No. 11 Mid Fairfield Yankees in the final game championship. Toronto scored a goal in each period, with O’Hara scoring in the first, Nikolas Sotiriou in the second off a pass form O’Hara, and Rickwood in the third with help from Perciballi. Costantini was sensational in net for the Canadians, preserving the shutout.

Overall, MacLeod led the tournament with 20 points (14 goals, six assists). O’Hara (six goals, three assists) and Bronstine (one goal, eight assists) also had solid tournaments scoring nine points each, while Perciballi (five goals, three assists) and Rickwood (three goals, give assists), both had eight points.

The tournament also saw excellent play from Ryan Kirwan of the Syracuse Nationals, who was the 2nd overall point leader with 15 goals and three assists for 18 points, Matthew Beniers of the South Shore Kings, who had six goals and assists for 12 points. Michael Stevens of the Mid Fairfield Yankees (eight goals, three assists), Valade Reid (four goals and seven assists) Carter Giles (four goals and seven assists) of the Mississauga Reps, and Collin Graf of the South South Shore Kings (Seven goals, four assists) all finished with 11 points.

Bantam’s Win Buffalo Super 98 Series

The Bantam Toronto Jr. Canadiens team won their second tournament of the season by taking home the Buffalo Super 98 Series this past weekend. The tournament featured some of the top teams from the USA.

The round robin format allowed for every team to play each other once and the team that finished with the best record would be crowned the Champions! The boys went undefeated in the tournament and even knocked off the #1 Ranked team from the USA. The scores are listed below:
