Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance Announces Major Award and All-Conference Honorees
Worcester State University graduate-student forward, Katie Puumala (Framingham, MA) earned Player of the Year honors after amassing a league best, twenty-one points on eleven goals and ten assists in ECHA play. Puumala led the ECHA in both goals and points on the 2023-24 season, including the game-tying goal in Sunday’s Championship victory over Rivier University.
Anna Maria’s graduate-student goaltender, Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) was tabbed Goaltender of the Year for the second consecutive season after registering a league-best 441 saves. Dahill boasted a .961 save percentage and a 1.89 goals against average during ECHA play. Dahill also helped guide Anna Maria to a program-best record in her final season with the AMCATS.
Worcester’s first-year defender, Fiona Hatton (Homer, AK) was named Rookie of the Year after leading all rookies in points (10) and assists (8) during ECHA play. The first-year blueliner also scored the Lancers overtime game-winning goal in Sunday’s Championship win over Rivier University. Hatton was tied for most points by a defender during ECHA play over the season.
To finalize the 2023-24 Major Awards, Worcester State University’s head coach, Eliza Kelley was named Coach of the Year after leading the Lancers to their third consecutive Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance Championship. The Lancers went 11-2-1 during ECHA play this season.
Worcester’s graduate forwards, Katie Puumala and Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, MA) and Anna Maria senior Jordyn Bleaney (Nanoose Bay, BC) were named first-team forward selections. Wozniak ranked second in the ECHA in points (19) and goals (10), and recorded twenty-nine points on the season overall. Bleaney registered twelve points in ECHA play on five goals and seven assts. Worcester’s sophomore defender, Lea Gaspar (Chelmsford, MA) and Rivier University sophomore defender, Molly Dukesherer (Richland, MI) were also named first-team selections. Gaspar led the ECHA for assists by a defender with nine and Dukesherer was tied for second for goals by a defender in ECHA play. Sam Dahill rounded out the first-team goaltender selection.
MCLA’s junior forward, Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB) was named an ECHA second-team selection after leading the Trailblazers in points during ECHA play. Bednar totaled six goals and nine assists on the season. Rivier junior forward, Paige Anger (Nashua, NH) and Worcester senior forward, Ellen Cook (Beckett, MA) were also named second-team forwards. Anger registered ten points on the season while Cook led the ECHA in assists (16). Second-team defender selections landed with the AMCAT duo of sophomore, Tessa Henry (Media, PA) and junior, Julia Ballinger (Newport, VT). Henry was first for defenders in goals during ECHA play with five, while Ballinger was fourth for defensive assists. Rivier University junior goaltender, Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, NJ) was named a second-team selection after registering a league-best save percentage of .969 over six ECHA starts.
The All-Rookie forwards were MCLA’s Rebekah Ade (Yucca Valley, CA), Worcester’s Maddy Franta (Superior, WI) and Rivier’s Tia Picardi (Saugus, MA). Ade was third among trailblazers in points, while Franta’s four goals during ECHA play was first-among rookies and Picardi’s six ECHA points was tied for second among rookies. The All-Rookie defensive selections were Worcester’s Rookie of the Year, Fiona Hatton, and MCLA’s Natasha Lozowchuk (Canmore, AB). Lozowchuk was second for the Trailblazers in ECHA points. Worcester’s, Lana Pacific (Marlborough, MA) was named the All-Rookie goaltender after posting a league-best goals against average of .79 over five ECHA starts.
The 2024 Championship will be held at the Worcester Ice Center, Worcester, Mass. beginning on February 23, 2024 with the Championship on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

The Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) bracket has been released. All tournament play will take place at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center in Worcester, Mass. Beginning Friday, February 23rd, 2024.
The Lancers of Worcester State University (9-2-1) clinched the top seed with a victory over Anna Maria College on Friday during the final weekend of regular season play. Worcester’s offense is led by graduate student forwards, Katie Puumala (Framingham, MA) and Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, MA) and senior forward Ellen Cook (Beckett, MA). Puumala leads the ECHA in points with 19, while Wozniak leads the ECHA in goals with 10 and Cook leads the ECHA in assists with 12, during conference play. Sophomore defensemen, Lea Gaspar (Chelmsford, MA) and first-year defender Fiona Hatton (Homer, AK) both have picked up eight points during ECHA play to lead the Lancers blueline. The goalkeeping duo of Lana Pacific (Marlborough, MA) and Kelsey Czerniawski (Chicopee, MA) rank #1 and #2 in goals against average and have combined for a 9-2-1 record in ECHA play.
The Raiders of Rivier University (6-4-2) picked up the second seed in the 2023-24 season, with a win over MCLA on the final weekend of ECHA play. The Raiders are led by the offensive trio of Sophomores Brianna Rumptz (Troy, MI), Brianna Parent (Saint Albans, VT) and Tia Picardi (Saugus, MA). All three forwards have registered 5 points during conference play. The Raiders blueline has seen action from sophomore defender Molly Dukesherer (Richland, MI) adding three goals during ECHA play. The Raiders are backed by sophomore goalkeeper, Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, NJ). Hinkley has picked up a perfect 4-0-0 record and a .964 save percentage during ECHA play over the course of the regular season. The Raiders finished their overall season with a program best 11-10-3 record.
The AMCATS of Anna Maria College (5-5-2) third seed of the tournament. The AMCATS are led by senior forward, Jordyn Bleaney (Nanoose Bay, BC), who wrapped up the regular season with 12 points on 5 goals and 7 assists in ECHA play. The AMCATS have also seen major action from senior forward Shayla MacDonald (Victoria, BC) and sophomore forward Tessa Henry (Milestone, SK) who both recorded 9 points in ECHA play. The AMCATS are backstopped by graduate student goaltender, Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) who has gone 4-4-1 on the season stopping 397 of the 414 shots faced during ECHA play.
The Trailblazers of MCLA (1-10-1) round out the fourth seed in the tournament. The Trailblazers are led by junior goalkeeper Juliette Barney (Braintree, MA) who has registered a .949 save percentage and 2.13 goals against average throughout ECHA play. Junior transfer Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB) has led the offense for the Trailblazers, registering 5 points during ECHA play and 15 points on the season with 6 goals and 9 assists. The first year defender, Carlen Bertrand (Timmins, ON) has also been a major contributor for MCLA with 9 points on the season from the blueline.
The Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance semi-final matchup is set to kick off this Friday, February 23, 2023 at 2:40 pm. The 1st seeded Lancers will take on the 4th seeded Trailblazers in the matinee, while the 2nd place Raiders will battle the 3rd seed AMCATS in the 8:10 pm game. The winners of each round will move on to the ECHA Championship on Sunday, February 25th at 4:50pm.

Graduate-student defender, Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, MA) leads the ECHA in assists with 6 in as many games. Worcester’s senior netminder, Amber Lee (Nashua, NH) has been a key factor for the Lancer defense, going an ECHA second best, 3-1-0 in ECHA play on the season.
The AMCATS of Anna Maria College (3-2-1) picked up the second seed with 7 points. The AMCATS are led by junior forward, Angelina Rodriguez (Corona, CA), who is tied for third in ECHA scoring with six points on two goals and four assists. The AMCATS goaltending has been a staple to their success on the season with senior tender, Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) leading the ECHA in winning percentage (83.33%), goals against average (.324) and save percentage (.991). Dahill has stopped 109 of 110 shots faced in ECHA play this season. Freshman keeper, Aurora Vanwormer (Swift Current, SK) has also contributed to the AMCATS defense, stopping 48 of 49 shots in ECHA play.
The Raiders of Rivier University (1-2-3) picked up the third seed in the 2022-23 season, backed by sophomore goalkeeper, Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, NJ). Hinkley has stopped 114 of 119 shots this season, and sits second in the ECHA with save percentage (.958) and goals against average (1.2). The Raiders’ offense is led by freshman defender, Jillian Hallee (Berlin, NH) notching 6 points on five assists and one goal. Classmate Jessica Driscoll (Tewksbury, MA) has also been a factor, leading the Raiders’ in goals-scored during ECHA play.
The Greyhounds of Assumption University (1-4-1) round out the fourth seed in the tournament. The Greyhounds goal scoring is led by junior forward Molly Duvall (Duxbury, MA) and junior forward, Ariana Desousa (Burrillville, RI). Netminder, Caroline McDonough has been a mainstay for the Greyhounds with a .942 save percentage and 2.28 goals against average in ECHA play this season.
