Overview

The Thunderbirds Hockey Club is a leading Tier II program in Ohio. We aim to develop players’ abilities and character on and off the ice so they’re ready for travel, high school, juniors, college or beyond. We give them intense training, polish their skills, test them against top Tier II rivals in Ohio and nationwide at Showcase events. Our coaches stress players pursue academic excellence so they can reach new levels both as a student and athlete in Ohio and beyond.

    Yamo Media sits down with General Manager David Dew and Head Coach Justin Cohn to discuss the SISU Thunderbirds College Prep team. Thunderbirds College Prep is an independent U19 Junior Prep team operating under the College Prep label. The team is open to players born between 2005 and 2008. Thunderbirds College Prep will operate as s fully independent team with permission from USA Hockey. The Thunderbirds are currently recruiting players from across the country, leveraging connections with Mole Hockey. The team is open to possible call-ups during the season from Thunderbirds U18 AA roster. The team will be targeting a total of 18 home games for the season. The schedule will consist of high end Midwest, Canadian and New England Prep Schools. Thunderbirds College Prep will compete against teams from the following leagues MPHL, NAPrepHL, TNPHL, PHC and Canadian Juniors Teams. Player fees will cover travel, lodging, meals during showcases, and other expenses. The team benefits from the expertise of David Dew Director of Scouting Ogden Mustangs (NCDC) and Regional Scout (Fargo Force USHL). Justin Cohn has served as an asst. coach with New Mexico Ice Wolves (NA3HL) and Head Coach with Decatur Blaze (USPHL) Justin also currently serves as a regional scout for Cowichan Capitals. Options are being explored for billeting, with current Thunderbird families as potential hosts. Educational support and NCAA eligibility are being considered, with post-grad players required to take a college preparatory class. The season is set to start on September 1st and run through early March, with an ID Camp to be held in April and a main camp later in the summer. The team is in contact with numerous prep schools regarding showcases and tournaments. Husna and Hameed Khan proudly serve as owners and contributors to the Thunderbirds College Prep team. Their primary focus is dedicated to assisting players in developing into not only better hockey athletes but exemplary individuals. With the establishment of KDC Sports Group, they aspire to extend this mission to various forthcoming entities, fostering growth and excellence within the realm of junior hockey.
